Steve Jobs

When a celebrity dies people say things like "he/she changed my life" and sometimes this could be true, but this is the first time the life of somebody I have never met has actually shaped my own.

Although he may not have been the person that actually designed the products or engineered the insides, if it wasn't for Steve Jobs Apple would be long gone and forgotten and I don't actually know what I would be doing with my life now. I know it has now been a while (in internet terms) since his death, but better late than never.

From when I wake up to when I fall asleep devices that his vision bought to fruition occupy my life. The first thing i do when i wake up is check my emails, Twitter and the latest news on my iPhone. At work my iMac is my tool to research, communicate and create new designs. Then in the evening I relax by playing games, watching videos and browsing the Internet on my iPad.

Sure there are alternative products out there that I could do all of this on, but I don't know if there would be if it wasn't for Apple leading the way, which makes me wonder what career i would be in if it wasn't for his contribution. Although Steve is no longer with us I hope that his vision is now firmly at the heart of Apple and they continue to bring out products that we never knew we even wanted!

A popular tweet that was making it's rounds on the news of his death was this:"3 apples changed the world: Adam and Eve’s forbidden apple, Newton´s apple and finally, Steve Jobs´s Apple. RIP Steve Jobs."I would like to propose another Apple that changed the world to replace the mythical forbidden one. Apple Corps which bought with it The Beatles who whether you love or hate them changed the world of music and still do, much like Steve Jobs has done with the technology and entertainment world.

Wedding Lists

Ok, so there is only just over 2 weeks left until Zoe and I get married.

When we first started planning this last year, we booked the essentials like the venue, the photographer and Zoes dress, all in the space of a few weeks and everything seemed so easy, I remember saying to Zoe "organising weddings is so easy", if only I knew!

Since then so many things have popped up that have needed to be sorted and the list seems to be never ending, as soon as one is complete, a new one appears, as I type this there is a new list on the coffee table in front of me that has been created overnight!

I'm not saying that it hasn't been fun, some of it has been, and some of it has been really stressful too! But I just don't think it is something I would like to do again in a hurry. A lot of people have asked me if I'm scared or nervous, but I think on the day I will be more relieved that all the planning is over and we can just enjoy the day.

This weekend we go up to Blackpool for our Stag and Hen, I am really looking forward to it, but I am a bit concerned about what my Best Man and co have in store for me...

Is Hating Conservatives Fashionable?

We were talking at work today about the election and we were discussing how it appears to have become fashionable to hate the Conservative party at the moment, we came up with some reasons as to why this might be but I wanted to open up the discussion a bit.

So I am just wondering what the personal reason is for you? Is it their policies, a class thing, David Cameron, their history, your parents option, peers opinion, etc…

Please could you comment below stating the main reason why you or why you think others feel this way, it would be really interesting to hear your opinions on this.

Also, if you are confused about who to vote for on Thursday there are two pretty good sites that I have mentioned on Twitter. There is Vote Match that asks you questions and you just have to say if you agree or not and then Vote for Policies, which shows you parties policies on various issues and lets you decide.

Family and Pals

So this year after Christmas my whole family went over to Spain to meet up with my brother, his wife, their daughter and dog for New Years. We stayed at this villa just outside of a small town called Pals in north Spain. I don't wanna bore you with loads of details so here are some of my highlights.
It was really good to have the whole family together, because it is quite rare as us four brothers have all grown up and have our own lives now. It was especially good to see my niece Miriam as she was born in May last year and this was only the second time I had seen her.

Me, Andy, Paul and Zoe went skiing on one of the days which was really good. I have only ever skied once before and that was on a dry slope. It was so much better on snow and I can't wait to go again some time. It was Zoes first ever time and by the end of it she was flying down the slope!

Spent a good few hours over the week in the hot tub while over looking the views.

The medieval town of Pals was all decorated like an old Roman town for a few nights which made a really interesting stroll around with my dad on one of the evenings.

On New Years Eve setting off fireworks out of a champagne bottle off of the terrace, with some mixed results!

On New Years Day we exchanged our presents to and from Andy, Sian & Miriam, they bought us a meal at the place that we are getting married at which will be really nice. In the evening we went down to the beach and released some flying lanterns, which quickly brought in a crowd watching as they floated into the sky.

And one night my niece and nephew put together a quiz, with the help of Sian, for the rest of the family to answer their favourite things. The first question came from Megan, my 9 year old niece, asking what her favourite colour was. Everyone was confident this was a guaranteed point as she has everything in pink, but we were all completely stunned when she said it was actually magenta!

Thanks to my family for making it an entertaining week away and hopefully we get to do something similar soon.

Gadget of the Decade

I have just watched the latest episode of The Gadget Show and it was the Gadget of the Decade special.

It was weird to see how far technology has actually come in the last ten years, in 2000 people were only just starting to use digital cameras, internet was still mainly dial up with no YouTube, MySpace or Facebook and nobody had even heard of an iPod!
What I liked the most about the show was that I completely agreed with every winner, which is quite rare for an awards show.

The 'Best Mobile Gadget' went to the iPhone, 'Best Photography Gadget' went to Photoshop, 'Best Music Gadget' went to the iPod and 'Best Entertainment Gadget' went to the Nintendo Wii. So obviously the reason I agreed so much with the results is because I am very biased as I have owned and loved all of the winners.

And finally I definitely agree with the final 'Best Gadget of the Decade' award going to the iPhone, it is by far my most used gadget of the decade, even 18 months on from when I first bought it I am still amazed by it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex

Because everyone was going crazy about the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 coming out on the Xbox 360 and PS3 yesterday I completely forgot that a game I had been waiting for had been released the same day.

It's an old game for most of you non Wii owners but I have been waiting for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex to be released for a while now. It is the same game as the old Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, except it has been ported onto the Wii and been given a new name.

Until now the only time I got to play on this game is round my parents house on my brothers Xbox for a few minutes, but since this evening I can play it on my good old Nintendo Wii.

The graphics are actually pretty impressive considering the power of the console compared to the others and pretty much all of the online features have been kept in. They have actually added a new feature where a second player which can use another Wii Remote and help you in the missions, which is pretty cool.

Now all I need to do is get better at playing it so I can stop dying so much online!

Apple Pumpkin

I'm going to a Halloween party tomorrow and we all have to bring a pumpkin to light up the garden, which should look pretty cool.

So I have just carved my pumpkin and obviously I chose an Apple theme.

The front is a slight variation on the Finder icon on Macs to make it look more traditional and on the back is a glowing Apple logo. Instead of just carving the Apple out I have just taken the skin off so that it gives off a glow like on the back of MacBooks.It is probably the geekiest and best pumpkin I have ever carved!

I'm getting bad at keeping my blog up to date and there is only one thing to blame... Twitter.

I have been updating this blog and documenting my life since Jan 2006 and it would be a shame for it to be neglected and slowly die. Because it is so much easier to just type up a short sentence and maybe a picture about what I am doing, Twitter is much more convenient but it lacks any depth, so I want to try to start updating my blog more often again like I used to, starting from... now.

So this week me and Zoe went away to Cornwall. It was really nice weather every day which was lucky as it has been getting alot colder and wetter recently. The journey down was not that fun as it was supposed to take just over 4 hours and it actually took 6 and a half hours!
The various coves and beaches along the coast are really nice down there and I often felt like I wasn't in England. The picture above is of Mullion Cove where we sat for a few hours watching the sea while eating a picnic. It was really nice so I wanted to capture it but it didn't all fit in the shot and I didn't take my video camera. So instead I took about 15 pictures panning around me and then when I got home joined them all together to create this panoramic view.

We went to quite a few little places and had a nice relaxing week away and I also tried some basic rock balancing on a few of the beaches, I will try and get the pictures up on Flickr soon.

I'm just waiting for my new Apple Crumble video to export as I type this, so that should be up soon.

Brilliant Coach Trip Clip

Ok so I admit it, I have a guilty pleasure and it's Coach Trip. For anyone who hasn't ever seen this it's a sort of gameshow where there are about 4 or 5 couples on a coach trip around Europe and they vote each other off each day, the prize being that the longer you stay the longer your holiday is!

For some reason I love this program and I rarely find others who share my passion for the show. I think what I love about it is that it isn't that good, I know that sounds ridiculous but that's what makes it brilliant.

Anyway I was watching it yesterday when this happened at the end when they have to vote another couple off. The man in the black shirt is like a mix of Russell Brand and Will from the Inbetweeners when he argues.

When I was watching this I was laughing so much, am I the only person who finds this funny, let me know in the comments.

Then to top it off in the 'coming next' bit the deaf comment is priceless, get this man on more TV now!

Jaida Video

Last year me and Zoë babysat our friends little girl Jaida and as a surprise I filmed her eating dinner and going to bed etc. Then gave her the DVD as a present and she liked it so much she asked us to do it again this year to capture her a year older.

So here is this years video.

I was thinking this would be a cool businesses idea, Zoë babysitting while I film and then they buy the DVD of their child to keep as a memory. But obviosuly the surprise element would be lost as the parents would have to know I was filming their children!

Fillerz On BBC News

My brothers sandwich shop Fillerz was on the BBC News this evening as a redevelopment plan which threatened to shut their shop has fallen through. I managed to track it down so thought I would upload it here.

You can see the shop in the background at the start and then my brother Steve, Dave his business partner and their friend Ben chatting outside. After that they were both interviewed and they put Daves in.

Google Street View Car Chase

At around 12 my Dad rang me saying he had just seen the Google Street View car driving around near where I live. At first I thought I'm never going to find that as where I live is like a maze of roads, but then after a minute I thought this is my once in a lifetime opportunity to be caught on Google Street View for what could be forever (or before they decide to take new photos of every city in the world) how can I not at least try!
So I rushed to get ready and got in my car in search of a black car with a tripod on the roof and the Google logo on the side . It was lunch hour and there was quite a bit of traffic on the road so this was going to be a very hard task.

I headed towards where my dad had spotted it but this was at a t-junction and he didn't know which way it had turned which made the task even harder! I just drove up and down the nearby streets in the hope that I would catch a glimpse of the strange looking car but nothing.

Then I tried the neighbouring estate and then the other side of the t-junction and after about 20 minutes gave up and headed home, bearing in mind I was driving randomly round big estates in a very built up area with lots of possible routes, I thought the odds of seeing it where very low.

BUT THEN as I was driving home along the main road I saw a black car with something odd on it's roof driving right towards me! Then as we passed I saw the tiny Google logo on the side and couldn't believe my eyes. I then turned around in the next possible place and tried to give chase but this time it was at a roundabout and while turning I didn't see which way it went and after a few more minutes of searching couldn't find it again.

I would have liked to have followed it to have guaranteed getting on there but I'm not too bothered as I still got to see it and hopefully my car will be on Street View when they upload Swindon! For future reference (and so you can see how hard it would have been to find it again) this is where we crossed and I have now parked my car out the front of my house so that if it comes up our street it will be on there again, if it hasn't already done up here.

Weird Lights Near Barbury Castle

Tonight Green, Kev and I went up to a local hill fort called Barbury Castle and as we were walking up to the hill fort we were playing frisbee and just as I threw it I noticed some odd lights in the sky in the distance.

When I pointed them out to the others we all just turned, stopped and stared at them for a few minutes without anyone saying a word. It was like we were all trying to think of a rational explanation before talking about it but none of us could.
They were orange and really bright, at first I thought they might have been those floating lanterns that have been getting more and more popular in the last few years. But it wasn't as they keep on rising up and are no where near as bright as these. These lights were mostly motionless and would just appear and then disappear again. It started off with 3 and then 1 or 2 more would come and others would die, it was very eerie.

Then after they all faded we carried on walking and then Kev heard this deep booming sound, much like the army sounds you often hear over Salisbury Plain way, but this was at 9:30 at night, a bit of a strange time for them to be firing anything and not fireworks as they were stationary in the sky. Then a few minutes later they appeared again but in different numbers and different locations so they were not attached to anything static. They went and came about 3 or 4 times each in a different pattern and no trail up they would just appear midair.
It was times like this that I wish that I believed aliens do come to Earth in spaceships, as I would have just put it down to this, reported a sighting to the police for them to 'file' in the bin and gone to bed. But I have a rational mind and knew there must have been a normal explanation for this, but none of us could come up with any kind of "oh it's just...".

I am kind of annoyed none of us had a video camera or good camera as all we have is some crappy mobile phone pictures which are hard to see. Another walker was as baffled as us asking if we knew what they were, I really wish we could have answered!

So if anyone has any ideas to what this could have been I would love to hear from you as it is hurting my brain. If you need to know anymore information just ask in the comments.

Hi, sorry I just looked and I have neglected this blog for about a month so just thought I would update you on what I've been doing, which isn't that much!

If you follow me on Twitter you probably know all this already, but I normally go into more depth on here about bigger events but I just forgot, so thought I would catch my blog up a bit:

I went to Sounds Good recording studio with the rest of What Is Echo? to record a few new tracks which we have now finished mixing, just need to sort out artwork etc and then it will be available.
We all went out for Craigs birthday and although once in town we didn't stay out long, it was clearly long enough...
Woke up with a really bad hangover, being sick a copious amount. Also had our engagement BBQ that day, not a good mix. Although once I had had a little nap and I was feeling less sick it was much more fun!
Went to the Sunday of the Radio 1 Big Weekend at Lydiard Park in Swindon, which was amazing.
Celebrated our 6 year anniversary by ordering in sushi from a new take away that just opened in Swindon. (We had already been to Dungeness to celebrate early)
Saw Derren Brown live in Oxford thanks to Zoe getting me tickets for my birthday. This was amazing and although he explains a few of his methods as he goes along, loads of it just seemed impossible, it was really impressive.
We were supposed to have been zorbing by now with Zoe, but it has twice been canceled due to high winds.
This bank holiday weekend was beautiful weather so we spent the warm evenings on the balcony chatting and the days having picnics or BBQs, how every bank holiday weekend should be. Actually how EVERY weekend should be.
Updated my blog tell people what I have been up since the last update.

I think that is everything apart from searching for jobs in all the boring gaps between the bullet points but you wouldn't wanna read about that, although technically you just did!

Weird Rain Boy

So yesterday it rained quite alot so most people would stay inside to keep dry, but not this kid.

He decided to not only wonder around in the rain but he was catching rain dripping from the roof in his mouth and standing on the path next to the puddle so that cars would splash him as they went past.

I ran and got my camera and managed to film him then doing push ups in the puddle! By the way the music is from the DVD menu of The Da Vinci Code in the background, not us listening to classical music!

Very odd boy!

We Are Engaged!

As most of you that follow me on Twitter, subscribe to me on YouTube, are friends with me on Facebook or know me in real life will know me and Zoë got engaged on Saturday while we were away in Dungeness. I managed to catch me proposing on camera as she thought I was just setting up the camera to film us in front of the lighthouses, enjoy the video below.

Thank you to everyone who has sent us their congratulations and cards. We had a really good time away, we stayed in a tiny cottage that we have stayed at before. We had fun exploring all the local beaches and attractions and eating too much unhealthy food (my Wii Fit was not happy!).

We had it booked to go Zorbing on the Sunday but unfortunately due to high winds it was canceled so we went to the zoo instead, which was actually really good. The zoo is huge and there is one bit of it that is a massive area just open with buffalo's, giraffes, zebra etc and you drive around it like an African safari.

On the last day we went to Littlehampton and we made this giant version of Zoës engagement ring on the beach. This actually took alot longer than I initially thought it would, especially finding all the chalk for the diamond.

Stupid Message

Ahh god, internet people annoy me sometimes. I am really grateful with how well the iPod Shuffle video has done but with popularity brings stupidity. I just received this message through YouTube regarding my iPod Shuffle video:

"dude, go and search and read and collect info before you come up with bullshit!!

1. the iphod shuffle was realized on Tuesday! where in the world do u live?

2. the old ipod shuffle was in black and white when they released it, by Christmas time it will be in all 5 colors that they do shuffles or maybe 9 that they do nanos.

3. where do you get your information from??? there is button on the ipod shuffle that you can choose repeat on playlist or shuffle!!!

i can't believe you people!!!
you are one of them people talk crap and bullshit and once you got your hands on iPod shuffle you will love it... i bet you will.."

This message was so wrong that I just had to reply:

"This is the funniest message I have ever received because it is the most inaccurate.

1. I live in the UK, but that is irrelevant as the release date is based on when it was released in the USA. The iPod Shuffle was released on the 11th of March 2009, which whatever way you look at it was a Wednesday.

2. There has NEVER been a black iPod Shuffle before the 3rd Gen. The 1st generation was in white only and the 2nd Gen introduced new colours.

3. In the video I mention that it has the button at the top, if your concentration span was long enough then you would have got that far. Also the button doesn't do what you said as it has the same function as the iPod Shuffle I own, it is off, play in order or shuffle, nothing to do with repeat or playlists.

I promise you I will not be buying the new shuffle as I use my iPhone to listen to music now.

The Apple Crumble

Whoa, finally it is all up!

Today I launched The Apple Crumble, which is a new series thing I am going to do on my channel to kind of give my channel some purpose. I will still post the occasional vlog and random video but I am going to be working more on Apple related things from now on.

I have spent ages working on this and it is a good feeling having it all up now. The first video, the website and Twitter.

Hopefully if all goes well they will be updated as and when Apple news catches my eye. I am not going to say the video episodes will be weekly but I want to try and keep them fairly frequent, if you are a subscriber and you are really not interested in Apple then please feel free to unsubscribe I will not hate you for doing so. It's just I have felt my videos have been getting less and less frequent and I feel I don't really serve a purpose on YouTube. sXePhil, Smivadee and RhymingWithOranges have all changed their channel to have more of a format and I quite like that I know what to expect from their videos.

You get musicians, artists, news reporters etc and I wanted to have an audience for my videos. So my main interest in life at the moment is Apple and all things related to them so why not make videos about things I enjoy, hopefully others will enjoy them too (based on that most of my subscribers subscribed because of the MacBook Air video).

Walkers 'Do Us A Flavour' Crisp Review

The other day we bought the multi-pack of the 6 new flavours of crisps that Walkers are testing as part of their 'Do Us A Flavour' campaign. They are only going to keep on one of these 6 flavours and as they are limited we thought we would have a taste and see what we thought before 5 of them are no more!

We won't see what each other are writing as we do this, so we don't sway each others thoughts.
Builder's Breakfast

Jon: Whoa, the taste of this is really powerful, as soon as they touch your tongue. A taste quite similar to smokey bacon crisps but with a bit extra, one of my favorites.

Zoe: Mmmm you can taste that bacon and tomato, but not much egg, you can even taste the buttery taste of the toast. I thought I was going to be let down by these as I had high hopes, but they reached my expectations.

Cajun Squirrel

Jon: Smell is pretty good, taste is not as positive. To be honest I have never had Squirrel so I wouldn't know what this is supposed to taste like, but it is quite a nice flavour nothing special but not bad. You can definitely taste the cajun spice part of this.

Zoe: The smell is nice, they taste like Sensations, the chicken flavoured ones. Lots of herb flavouring. It's alright not brilliant, some of the others are much better, but it's not horrible.

Crispy Duck & Hoisin

Jon: The smell is really good, you can actually smell the pancake. The taste is odd, I think it is the flavour most similar to the actual food but for some reason that was a bit of a disappointment. I normally expect a more exaggerated flavour when it comes to crisps. Pretty good but I've had better.

Zoe: I'm disappointed by these but I don't know why. The initial taste was that I couldn't taste anything, but once I had crunched it I got the hoisin flavour. Leaves a nice aftertaste in your mouth and it is definitely one of the better flavours.

Chilli & Chocolate

Jon: This was really weird, to start with they just taste like chocolate and they actually don't taste too bad but then the chilli kicks in and it is quite hot. It also has an odd dairy taste on your tongue as you eat it which made me feel a bit sick. Just a odd combination of flavours and not in a good way.

Zoe: The initial taste of the chocolate is nice, it then spices up your mouth with the chilli, which is hot. It leaves a funny after taste which I don't like.

Fish & Chips

Jon: These really remind me of the taste of Scampi Fries you get in pubs, which isn't a bad thing. Quite a nice taste, much better than the Chilli & Chocolate.

Zoe: You taste the vinegar to begin with but it doesn't taste like salt and vinegar crisps. The fish initially tastes like chicken but then the fishy taste comes through. Really nice.

Onion Bhaji

Jon: I'll be honest I thought these were not going to taste that good but the smell is really nice. Then the taste is pretty good too and actually does taste like onion bhaji, with a tiny kick of spice at the end.

Zoe: Much better than what I was expecting. Tastes a bit like a samosa, it has that curry flavour and slightly spicy aftertaste left in your mouth.

Conclusion

Jon: I am stuck between two, Fish and Chips and Onion Bhaji. I was actually really impressed with the Onion Bhaji and was shocked because I didn't think I would even like it let alone put it in my top two. Actually it is my favourite, so the dark horse won!

Zoe: This is harder than I thought it was going to be with my final decision being between Builders Breakfast and Onion Bhaji. Although these both tasted great my winner is going to be... Builder Breakfast, because of the mixture of flavours.

It's My Birthday!

Today, February 5th, is my 22nd birthday.

It is very snowy where I live today which is cool because I don't think it has snowed on my birthday before, it felt a little bit like Christmas as I woke up and unwrapped presents too.

I got lots of little cool presents including tickets to see Derren Brown, Sea Monkeys, Bloc Party t-shirt, Trauma Center, Guinness Book of Records, Golden Balls DVD, spider catcher (because I am a wimp), Mario Kart Pez dispenser and money.

It was also my day to do a video for the 365 Project, which if you don't know is a YouTube channel on which each day for a year is a different vlogger. Stupidly when it was first announced I dived right in and got my birthday which I soon regretted.

But it is now up and it was pretty fun to make actually. It involves eating challenges if you care to watch.

Lisa sent me an email earlier of this snowman she made and I think it is possibally the best snowman I have ever seen, obviously it makes it even better that it is holding a birthday message for me!

Also I finally persuaded Zoe to join Twitter!

Hair Cut

So I have just come back from the hair dressers and for the first time in ages I am actually happy with my hair cut!

I went to West One this time and I had just had enough with my hair in my face so just asked for them to style it and make it shorter, which is exactly what they did.

Normally I come out after getting my hair cut elsewhere and put on my hat for a day or two and after about a week I am kinda happy with my hair, but today I actually liked it straight away.

Here is a before and after, as you can see I really needed to get it cut!

It was also a really good price so I will definitely be going back there to get my hair done again.

Re-Brand

I was getting a little tired with the y2kjon look so I have given it a bit of a revamp.

Unless you are reading this on Google Reader you will have noticed my blog looks a little different now and I have ditched the 'What's Going On Inside My Head' name. This new look also follows suit on pretty much every site I use but the main noticeable difference is probably on YouTube.

The writing for this new font is actually my own hand writing then scanned into the computer and then made digital which gives it a more personal touch.

New Years Resolution

Hope you all had a good New Years party last night, we had a party at my parents house this year as Andy & Sian (brother and sister-in-law) are over from Spain, which was actually really fun this year. We played loads of games one of which ended in my face and clothes being covered in flour.

So normally I don't do a proper New Years Resolution but last year I said I was going to move into my own place by the end of the year, and as that actually happened I thought I would set another one this year.

This year I want to get my BMI to 22, which is ideal and keep it at that until next year.

I'm not exactly overweight but I need to eat alot healthier and could definitely be doing more exercise, so this should be a good way of doing it. I will be using Wii Fit (which I got for Christmas) to monitor my progress and I will try to keep you updated.

Boxing Day

Ok, so it is Boxing Day and Christmas is almost over for another year. I have had a really good Christmas this year and hope that you all have too. I got lots of really nice presents and generally had a nice time.

Christmas Day was really cool as me and Zoë woke up in our own place so it was just the two of us on Christmas morning. We gave each other our gifts and then we went our separate ways to our family homes.

My niece and nephew were at my parents house so it was a very excited house and a very noisy and messy one too! But this made me feel even more Christmassy. Then for dinner my brother was cooking which was really good as he is a professional chef, so had a very tasty and filling lunch, probably ate too much (but who doesn't?). Then I went to Zoës for the afternoon and then we went back to mine for the evening.

Then this morning we decided to get up early to go to the Boxing Day sales to look for a LCD TV for mine and Zoës for a bit cheaper. We started at Comet, then tried Currys, PC World and finally ending up in Argos. So while I am typing this I am watching QI on our new telly, which is cool!

Just to finish off as this is getting quite long, here is a new video of mine showing the presents I received this year. This idea is based on a popular video called '51 things I found around my house.' Also I made this video HD so on YouTube it goes really big if you click 'Watch In HD'.

My Voice On YouTube Live!

I'm sorry to do another blog involving YouTube but this was exciting.

The other day YouTube held a massive event which was streamed live online to reportedly 700,000 online viewers. Unfortunately due to the time difference and me having work the next day I couldn't stay up and watch it, but when I woke up in the morning I saw a Tweet from Laura (aka SmartieLove) saying "@y2kjon I heard your voice at YouTube Live! It was exciting."

So I replied to try and find out more and luckily she had noted down the time so I was searching for ages but couldn't find the whole show, then today she messaged me saying she had found it and sure enough it was my voice. I have captured the video and here it is, my voice is about 1 minute in.

I know it is only a few seconds and it is only my voice but it is cool to think I was involved in this in my own tiny way.

Widescreen YouTube

I just woke up and went on YouTube and noticed that the video is now much bigger and is also widescreen.
It looks so much better especially when the video has been uploaded in widescreen as it fills the whole box. When in High Quality the videos look even better, finally an update to the site that has in my mind improved the main use of it, to watch videos.

I was trying to work out how they have done this though because the adverts above the descriptions box appear to still be the same size so they must have actually made the whole site wider to accommodate the bigger video box.

Google Street View

Today the iPhone software got updated to 2.2 and that means it now has Google Street View on it!

I was amazed at how well this has been done. I have been on Street View before on Google Maps but it is so much better on the iPhone as you can pan around alot quicker and it feels more intuitive.

I started with the obvious and had a look around New York, mainly Times Square and then found the hotel me and Zoe stayed at. Then I tried finding my brothers apartment in Barcelona. I found it but you can only view it from afar as the Google car didn't go further down the road for some reason. It will be good when there are a few British towns on there, which are planned for the near future.

I just found this site which shows all the interesting things that the Google Cars have caught around the world, have a look around some are pretty funny.

This band has basically made 4 videos and then posted each of them as a video response to make one long banner.

It's just a shame the web site and band it links to are not as creative as this advert.

Guitar Hero: World Tour

Ok, so this game has been out for a few weeks now in America but was only released yesterday here in the UK. I have pre-ordered this game, but I have ordered the full kit with the drums, microphone and stuff which doesn't come out till the 14th next week.

So while I am impatiently waiting I have been watching loads of videos of it on YouTube. The cool thing about the new one is that there is a recording studio and you can create your own songs and then upload them for others to download and play.

I just found this video which shows someone playing the Super Mario Bros theme tune and it has got me even more excited about this game. If people continue to make good songs like this I can't see this game getting old quick.

I did have a short go on the drums when I went to Stuff Live last week and it was pretty good, but we only got to play one song. The wait is killing me, hopefully as I have pre-ordered it, it may come before Friday, finger crossed!

Flexible Chair

I just found this amazing video showing a flexible chair called FlexibleLove. It is made from cardboard and can even be stretched to seat up to 16 people. I think the video talks for itself, this product is an amazing idea.

Obama!

I have just witnessed history in the making, America now has the first black president!

To start with McCain was ahead but then that quickly changed, even with Obama getting close to winning in Texas.

Paul, Dad and me stayed up to watch it, then at around 2 me and Paul were a little bit peckish so went for a little car journey. We went to five kebab shops and they were all shut, which when you think about it they would be as it is 2 in the morning on Wednesday! So we settled for going to Asda for a few Rustler burgers.

Finally Obama got the 270 he needed to win and is now officially the President of Unided States of America.

I look forward to see what change this will bring.

Short Dead Set Review

So now I have seen the whole of Dead Set I thought I would just quickly say what I thought.

It was actually pretty good overall, the story was well thought out and the inclusion of people like Davina gave it more realism. There was quite a few bits where my heart was beating and the odd jumpy bit which was good.

My favourite episode was the forth one, especially the amazing cliffhanger at the end. Also I think it was in this episode where it made Zoe scream, you know where Brian from Big Brother jumped out.

The last episode felt a little bit rushed and maybe could have been a little longer, but that is just me being picky. Also you really did have to watch it in a dark room as they had brought the brightness down so much.

If you didn't manage to see it I highly recommend you do, either by watching it on 4OD or buying the DVD. Let me know in a comment what you thought.

Human Tetris

How did I not know about this show!

I just came across a clip on YouTube of a Japanese show called Human Tetris where the contestants have to stand on a line as a wall moves towards them with a shape cut out of it. Then the people have to get through the shapes or they get pushed into the water.

Then I found out that we have a UK version called Hole In The Wall and we have already had 6 episodes. So I assumed it was on Challenge or some other crappy digital channel in the day but no, it is on Saturday evenings on BBC1!

Dale Winton presents it and minor celebrities take part, this really is humiliation at its best, I mean look at the outfits. If you are in the UK you can watch it on iPlayer, if not just search on YouTube for Hole In The Wall UK.

Why Do I Say These Things?

I was at Asda earlier today I noticed the two top selling books were Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand, so this whole thing has just promoted them if anything.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few days you would have heard about the controversy with Russell and Jonathan. If not click here for the story, this thing has been completely blown out of proportion.

The show was pre-recorded so if it is anybodies fault then it is the producer of the show for including it in the final broadcast. But blaming aside I actually found the recording quite amusing, listening to them digging themselves into a deeper and deeper hole.

Andrew Sachs has been filmed today saying that he accepts their apologies and doesn't want any action taken against them, so that should be the end of it. I hope this doesn't still dominate the news tomorrow as I'm sure there are much more important things happening in the world.

The best thing is that Jonathans book is called 'Why Do I Say These Things?', very fitting.

New York Picture

Recently me and Zoe bought a picture for our bedroom which is of New York.

I was looking up online who took the picture and finding out more about the main building in it when I realised where it was.

After a quick look through our photos from our trip there I found that Zoë has taken the same photo from the same place, which was from the top of the Empire State Building.

Below should be a moving image between the picture taken by Angelo Cavalli and the one taken by Zoë so you can see how similar they are.

Dead Set First Episode

I just watched the first episode of Dead Set and thought it was actually pretty good, not quite sure how they are going to drag the story out over the whole week though.

After all the episodes have been shown I will try and write what I thought of the whole series, but it looks promising at the moment as long as they can keep the story interesting.

One interesting thing was that there was no credits at the end instead it just showed this URL www.deadsetcredits.com and when you go to this site it is just like normal credits. I wonder if more programs will start doing credits this way to save time.

Banksy's Pet Shop

Banksy has set up a new piece of art in New York, his first official exhibition.

It is a whole pet shop which he has done out with fake animated animals made of food, such as chicken nuggets as chicks, fish fingers in a fish bowl and hot dogs as snakes.

There is loads of other stuff too, I highly suggest you watch this video from BBC as it shows it all. Also he has his own site here which shows things quite well.

Although I really like his stencil work, I'm glad he has done something a little bit different.

So some really exciting news this week. Me and Zoe have bought an apartment!

We have been looking for a while as the market is so good at the moment for first time buyers. We really wanted an apartment just so we can enjoy that style of life until we have kids and need a house. But one of the main attractions with an apartment is that it would be a few floors up, but as Zoë's dad is in a wheelchair he wouldn't be able to come and visit so it is kind of out of the question.

We were just giving up on apartments as it felt like we had seen so many and none of them felt right or were too small. Then the other day me and my mum were just driving back from the bank and I suggested looking at some apartments that we hadn't seen yet.

We went there and were shown around 4 homes and all of them were better than anything we had seen so far, but one just stood out as it was amazing. Plus they had lifts so we can get one higher up!

The next day we took Zoë back to look and she fell in love with it too, so to make a long story short(er) we are now the owners of said apartment and are now in the process of sorting it all out.

Dead Set

There is a new show starting on E4 soon and it is called Dead Set.

It is quite a standard zombie story, where the dead come alive and infect the living. But this one is set in the Big Brother house and the contestants are oblivious to the problems in the outside world until the eviction night.

Take a look at this video it kinda gives a hint of things to come.

A while ago I found this site called HowCast and it is a bit like YouTube except they are all how to videos.
After watching a few videos I found out they had a program where you can get paid for making videos for them. So about a month ago I chose one of the briefs and made a video called 'How To Care A Pet Mouse'.

Today I finally got accepted into the program so I am now officially a HowCast Emerging Filmmaker.

I now have my full Flickr account back thanks to my Dad who paid for it!

This means you can now see more than the 200 most recent pictures, you can now see 1,597 to be exact, as of now.

Also today I sorted all my photos out, so if you go on my Flickr you can go to sets and all the pictures are organised into events.

Also I don't know if any of you have noticed but my phone also geotags my pictures now, so there is a map and you can see where my pictures were taken (although sometimes it can be a little bit off).

Apple & Spore

Ok today has basically consisted of just two things, Apple and Spore.

So starting with Spore, I bought the iPhone game this morning then played for about 3 hours. It is a really simple yet addictive game. The basic idea is to follow the evolution from a single cell to a land mammal and along the way eat things smaller than you and avoid things bigger than you. As you evolve you can add bits to your creature to make them better as playing the next levels. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch I highly suggest you buy it.

Then at 6 this evening was the Apple "Let's Rock" event, in which they announced updates to the entire iPod range and also iTunes 8. The most exciting part for me was iTunes 8 and one of the biggest features is Genius which is kind of like Last.fm built into iTunes. It recommends music that is similar to what you are playing but the main function of it is to automatically create playlists. After playing around with it for a bit I am actually really impressed, you just have to press the Genius button while listening to a song and it will make a playlist of 25, 75 or 100 songs that work well with that song.

The updated Nano and Touch look pretty cool too and look forward to 2.1 on Friday.

Then this evening I got Spore for my Mac which is the full game. I am only on the second stage of the game but am really enjoying it at the moment. The first stage was pretty much the same as the iPhone game. Then you get onto land and develop legs and start evolving and making relationships and communities. It is pretty much an infinite game as you can customise almost every aspect of it, it is really impressive.

So that's just a quick update on the nerdy day I had today.

Apple Customer Service

Ok so on the way home from Festinho (which I will probably write a separate blog about) I noticed a mark on the top of my iPhone. It looked like a scratch but I have had my Invisible Shield on pretty much since I bought it and have never dropped it or anything.

After looking around on the net for a bit I saw that others had had the same problem and it looked pretty similar to mine.

So this morning I phone up AppleCare and told them about it and the lady said that there as nothing they could do as it must have been the case that caused the damage. This is stupid how can a sheet of plastic cause a scratch UNDER the glass? After arguing for a bit I gave up.

But then I phoned back and this time I got a really helpful lady. She said it sounded like a manufacturing fault and that if I just went into an Apple store they would have a look and see what they can do. This would be fine apart from my closest store is an hour and a half away, but as this was the only option apart from sending it off I thought why not.

So I drove down to Southampton to West Quay where they have an Apple store. I went in showed the man and he said it looks like a manufacturing fault and called up somebody and they just swapped it for a brand new iPhone! Also as I had the Invisible Shield on it which you can't transfer they gave me a free replacement cover too. Also while I was in there another man came in and his MacBook charger wasn't working and they just gave him a replacement charger even though his mac was out of warranty!

Now that is customer service why can't all companies be as helpful and friendly as this? It's great for their image because now I will tell people how great their customer services are (like I am now).

y2kjon.com for iPhone

The last few days I have been working on making y2kjon.com compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Now this wasn't really a priority as I don't think I have many people that visit the site from thier phones, but I wanted to see if I could teach myself how to do it and it seems I could.

So now if you visit the site from your iPhone or iPod Touch you will automatically be redirected to the iPhone compatible version.

The hardest part was getting the orientation to work. But I finally worked it out and now when the phone is turned sideways the page changes layout to fit the screen better.

VLoggerHeads

Ok so I just got accepted for VLoggerHeads.

This is basically a new website for people who just want to make video blogs. At the moment it is invite only, which means that the general public can't view the videos. This is good because the people who watch and comment are people who vlog themselves, so there is no hate comments (not that I really get alot of them on YouTube).

I just uploaded my new video and have already got 21 views and 7 comments, which is pretty good baring in mind that I have only just set up an account. I won't be uploading the videos onto YouTube as I don't want to bore people and they have been made for VLoggerHeads using just use my built in camera and I do not edit them or anything, but just to show you here is the first one.

I look forward to how this site develops.

iPhone Killer?

Why whenever a new phone comes out with a large touchscreen do the press say "Is the new Nokia phone an iPhone killer!", NO IT'S NOT!

This used to happen a few years ago with the iPod, every single MP3 player that got released was branded as the 'iPod killer', arghhh!

Why can't these companies think outside the box a bit, notice how alot of MP3 players now look similar to the iPod and all the new phones now have a large touchscreen? When the original iPhone was announced competitors said that users wouldn't like not having a real keyboard, now look at them.

So when you next see an article or advert saying 'iPhone/iPod killer' just think how annoyed I will be getting! They might all be good but lets be honest they're just not Apple.

Little Boots

Little Boots was recently featured on the YouTube UK homepage with one of her own songs but after looking at her channel I found this:

This instrument is a Yamaha Tenori-on and I really like the way she shows the build up of the song.

I think the best thing about Little Boots is that she uses various instruments as well as the piano which gives her a unique sound. For example here is a song called Meddle, in which she uses the Tenori-on, a stylophone, piano and also claps.

Wall-E

I have just got home from seeing Wall-E at the cinema and I thought it was really good.

The storyline is really interesting and worryingly doesn't seam that far from reality. There isn't any big laugh out loud moments but there are a few small funny bits. I have seen it described as a 'family romance' film and I would say this is quite fitting.

This film must have the least dialogue out of all the films I have ever seen, but it doesn't really need it as it works brilliantly without it. The film felt different to most CGI films as the camera movement was alot more human like as opposed to being rigid. Also I couldn't believe the look of Wall-E, he looks very realistic and not as computer generated as most of the other characters.

My f avourite part was when Wall-E recharged and when he started up it was the Mac start up noise, which is clearly due to Steve Jobs position in Disney/Pixar. Also I read online that EVE the white robot was designed with the help of Jonathan Ive who is the man responsible for the look of the iPod, iMac and iPhone.

Overall it was a really good film and well worth a watch.

Bacon & Crisp Sandwich

Sorry it's another food blog but I watched another video from the same person that did the mug cake and this time he made bacon sandwiches with additions like crisps and salsa, so I thought I would give it a go.

I wasn't as adventurous as him but you can see from the picture I have the bacon with HP sauce on the right and then Bacon Rasher crisps on the left.

This sandwich was actually really nice and the crisps added a good crunch to it, let me know of any other unusual things I could try in a sandwich.

Mug Cake

Just watched this video and although his attempt failed I really wanted to give it a go.

Basically it is a chocolate cake which is made in a mug and takes under 5 minutes to make and cook.

I Googled the recipe and found this and tried it out.

It works and it works really well, I also made one without cocoa powder and it made a nice plain sponge cake.

What a brilliant quick snack I will definitely be having this again!

As it doesn't seem like we are going to be able to go away on a group holiday until later in the year now, I was just feeling down when my brother phoned me and asked "do you want to come over for a few days next week?"

He said there was space for three of us to come if we wanted so I asked Dan and he said yea, then we couldn't think of anyone else until Dan suggested Zoe, so I reluctantly asked her and she could come too!

So we looked up flight prices and it wasn't too bad, so this time next week we will be in Barcelona! YAY!

PS. Just noticed the time and date and thought it was pretty cool (the title of this blog).

My Parents Purchase

Finally it has happened after almost 2 years of recommendation.

My parents are going to buy a Mac!

I am going to go with them this week to get a MacBook, this will be really good as they constantly have problems with their current laptop and hopefully this will be the end of that. I know that to start with I am going to have to help them alot until they learn how to use the new operating system but it is worth it in the long run.

I know that in a few months they will be saying how they are better and recommending them to their friends like every other Mac user!

This site is kind of like YouTube but instead it is an ongoing competition with lots of categories. I have submitted my MacBook Air video and this is where I need your help.

iCooly Stand

I just found this stand which is coming out for the iPod Touch.

It is to recreate the look of the iMac and I think this would look amazing on my desk next to mine. It would be like a mini-me of my computer.

Also it can rotate to show the iPod in landscape too. I just hope that when this comes out it is compatible with the iPhone.

Twitter

I have finally signed up for a twitter account.

I have never really understood the point of it and then I heard this sentence and it kinda made sense, "twitter is in between blog posts and emails", so it tells people the everyday stuff you are doing without the effort of a whole blog post and without individually emailing people, and the maximum you can write is 140 characters.

I really liked the idea and thought, if there is a way I can put it onto my blog then I will sign up. As you can see on the right there was a way to add it, so I signed up. I don't know if you remember but when I changed the look of this blog I said I wanted there to be something different every time you checked back. This fits exactly that!

I can even text updates to it, so say I'm out and see something cool I can just twitter it there and then. I am still only just getting started with it so I will see how it goes, I will probably get bored of it after a while but I just thought I would let you know.

I think you can do some kind of subscription thing but I think I want to keep it on the side of here for now as a kind of 'micro blog'.

Queuing Mug Advert!

I saw today that a queue had formed outside the Apple store in New York. Apparently there were about 60 people queuing and when asked they didn't know what for either. People are confused because the new iPhone doesn't come out for a few weeks. Alot of people are now saying that it might be Improv Everywhere, if you haven't seen this group in action before click here. But they are actually denying it, so I don't know why they are queuing and I don't think alot of them do!

When I got up today I was excited to see I had a package in the post. I opened it up as quick as I could (which was quite a while as there was so much tape!). It was a YouTube mug and it says 'User Generated Coffee' on it! I got this for free for being part of the 'UK YouTube User Panel' and helping them out with feedback on the site.

Talking of YouTube I have just reached 700 subscribers, I guess my next milestone will be either 750 or 800.

If you haven't seen the latest advert from Apple then click here as soon as you possibly can as it is amazing! It involves Coldplay which isn't what makes it so cool, it's the effects used. Accident & Emergency

The other night Zoe had to go to A&E because she dropped a really heavy lamp base on her foot. Normally we wouldn't go to the hospital but the pain just didn't stop. We got there, got pain killers, saw a nurse, had an x-ray and then had a small procedure to release blood from under the nail in under an hour. I was actually really shocked how quick it was, so I recommend if you are going to have an accident, have it in the evening as there is hardly anyone there!

Recently I sold my iPod as I am going to get an iPhone when they announce the new 3G one (June 9th). I keep going to get it out of my pocket and it's not there it's really annoying!

I was just in the garden and just saw a baby bird on the floor. Unfortunately it was dead and looked as though it was a new born. It had no feathers or proper wings and it's skin was transparent so I guess it wasn't very old at all. I don't know if I'm weird or not, but it actually looked really cute even though it was no longer living. I put him (or her) to rest at the end of our garden under some growth.

Talking of dead animals I accidentally killed my Tamagotchi yesterday as I didn't see it for a whole day.

Ok I'm off now to go to Charlie's to have some Chinese, I'm excited because I am really hungry!

Stuff

We played a gig on Thursday at a local pub called The Victoria. It actually went really well and there was a pretty good turn out. We also made some cds to give away and we went with 23 and came back with only 3, I just hope the people who took them at least have a listen. Here is a video Dans dad filmed.

Then yesterday I had the weirdest thing ever happen to me, it's a long story but basically when I woke up I thought that the day before was all a dream and that I had only just woken up to Thursday morning. I actually believed this for 5-10 minutes, it was weird.

Then when I got up I found a parcel for me which is always fun. It was a Tamagotchi, I got this because I saw a video where someone said he had a £5 voucher and this was one of the cheapest things and I remembered I had a voucher too. Mine is called Ben and is now 1 day old.

Also went to Asda yesterday and saw they had Opal Fruits on sale! I don't know if this is a permanent thing or if the name is being temporally changed back, but I bought a packet anyway because I was excited.

New York: Day Six

9:18 - I am just lying in bed at the moment while Zoe is packing her case. We are doing a bit of shopping today, YAY! I can't wait. We are going to go to the appartment where Flight of the Conchords live first which I am looking forward to more. It is our last day today but I feel like I have seen pretty much everything I wanted to see this time so I don't mind leaving although I will miss being here. In the Apple store last night I was talking to someone about the iPhone and he was saying it might come out earlier than June, I haven't been keeping up with my Google Reader so haven't read any rumours, but I hope that is true.

16:57 - Been walking alot today again, we are now in a cab on our way to the airport, we have now left Manhattan. :(
I hope I don't have too much trouble sleeping on the plane, I don't think I will as I feel quite tired now. I bought 6 things to take back while here, 5 of which are Nintendo related! I wanted a Nintendo World shirt but they only had kids. This ride back to the airport is alot better than the ride in, we have two big leather seats with arm rests, the windows open and relaxing reggae music.

10:55 (UK Time) - We are now in my mums car on the way home from the airport. It has been a really good trip and we have both really enjoyed it. As we landed we heard some bad news about Zoes nan who I hope gets better soon.

New York: Day Five

10:43 (Zoe) - We have just sat down to have a McDonalds deluxe breakfast and its the weirdest combination of food I have eaten. We have got sausage, egg and hash brown which is normal, then in the same bit we have got pancakes with syrup and a scone with jam. It is nice though, I'm going to eat it as a meal and then pudding!

16:08 - After breakfast at McDonalds we headed to the American Museum of Natural History and we are still there! We are sat at the moment having a short break. This place his HUGE, it is by far the biggest museum I have ever been in! This is where they filmed Night at the Museum too which is cool. We decided to pay to do all the extras like the planitarium, butterflies etc. Which was worth it, got some really good footage of the butterflies. The dinasours were really good too, I don't think I have seen a full dinosaur bone structure before. We have been in here for a long time and still have lots to see but it is all so interesting, but luckily it is raining again so it's also good to be inside.

17:38 - We have only just left the museum and this is mainly because it is shutting in 5 minutes and they keep announcing it. We have been in there for 6 hours! I think we are going to go and find somewhere to eat as we have only had a packet of crisps between us since breakfast. We are also going to try and find Serendipity 3 which apparently has really good desserts.

19:59 - We are in the Apple store a little earlier today as it was on the way home from Serendipity 3. It was really nice in there I had half a breaded chicken and then a massive sundae so I am really stuffed! I still can't believe we spent so long in the museum earlier, it was good though, I don't regret it. I think we are heading back to Times Square in a minute, maybe on a bike taxi (I don't know the proper name!) to go to 'Ripleys Believe it or Not' and a bit of shopping. This will be the last blog from the Apple store as we are flying home tomorrow evening so I will upload our last bit on Wed morning. Zoe is showing off because she managed to get on a MacBook Air and I am on an iMac!

New York: Day Four

12:13 (Zoe) - It's our anniversary today. We are at the top of the Empire State building, you can see for ages. Jon just got down on one knee!

15:38 (Zoe) - We are in a boat in Central Park. Jon is rowing the boat as we are in a busy part and he says I'm rubbish (but better than Dan!) There are loads of people rowing, all the space is taken up in the lake. After Empire State we went to Penn Hotel to see the lobby but they were renovating so it wasn't as good as when Jon stayed last year.

16:10 - Just sat on a big rock in Central Park drinking some Snapple and Mountain Dew. It is nicer weather than yesterday so we chose a good day to come to the park, I think it is supposed to rain again tomorrow. We went to the Empire State Building this morning and it was really good to see the views in daylight this time as last time I went up at night!

19:48 - It's Apple store time. We just went to a restaurant called Chat 'n Chew which was recommended by pearshaped68, it was really nice and really really filling. We also went to Union Square Market and Zoe bought some cool ornaments. Thanks alot for all your comments, we enjoy reading them all and as a special treat here is a video!

New York: Day Three

13:40 - We are currently on the ferry that goes to Staten Island. We have just seen the Statue of Liberty and are now on the way back. This morning we went to ground zero and it was a bit weird how people were clambering at the fence to get pictures of such an area. I know that's why we went but it was strange how desperate they were for photos, without even a thought of what went on here. I got a can of Yoo-Hoo which is chocolate drink and is really nice, it might well become my favourite American drink. I think we are going to head to Brooklyn Bridge now and then probably China Town.

14:25 - "It just looks like the bridge from Bristol" Zoe Hooper, 2008.

14:57 - Sat at on Brooklyn beach in between Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge. Just walked over the bridge so probably going to get a Starbucks and sit for a bit before heading back over.

20:02 - Now back at the hotel for a quick rest as we are going out soon. After Brooklyn Bridge we went to China Town, which was really busy, we also went into Little Italy for a bit. Then we got noodles and came back. We also got more Yoo-Hoo, but in a bottle this time, still nice but not as good as in a can. Off to a comedy club now and then prob to Apple store to upload this.

23:36 - In the Apple store again, you know what they say "an apple a day...". Just been to the comedy club and it was actually really funny and we both enjoyed it (plus we didn't get picked on which was good). I think the comedians we saw were Frank Vigola, Joe Matarese, Rodney Laney and another one which we can't find. Both pretty tired from all of today's walking so might go get some food (pizza maybe) and head back to the hotel. It is our actual 5 years anniversary tomorrow and I think we are going to central park to have a nice relaxing day as the sun is coming out.

New York: Day Two

07:01 - Just woke up. Last night after the Apple store we strolled back to the hotel and fell asleep whilst watching tv as jet lag caught up with us. Then when we woke up we went and got some food from McDonalds, Zoe had a meal that came with 2 cheeseburgers (she only ate one), then we fell asleep.

11:34 - We are currently in the queue to go into Guggenheim. It is raining today and we are both pretty wet already. I think after we go round the museum we are going to go to ground zero and maybe the Statue of Liberty.

15:29 (Zoë) - It is wet, wet, wet today! We went to Guggenheim museum this morning which was really good, better than the Tate. I got to go in a little boat along a river inside the museum to look at this mans art as he wanted you to experience it in a different way, which was fun. We got wet again going to Rockefellers from the metro, and it took us ages to find Nintendo World which Jon loved and we got to play Wii MarioKart and some games on the DS. We then got wet some more and are now sat in Starbucks 'drinking my coffee' (as Dan would say!)

18:11 - We are now in MoMA, which is massive! On Fridays it is free from 4pm so that saved us a bit of money. Alot of the work in here is really good and there is quite a few pieces from famous artists. Guggenheim was really good earlier and so was Nintendo World. It was odd that people were excited to try out Wii Fit as we have had it for weeks and it doesn't come out here till next week. Everything normally comes out in USA first. I haven't filmed or taken as many photos as I would have liked, but I have been taking it all in this time instead. As Zoe said it is very wet today.

10:08 - Ok, we are in the Apple store again, I think we are going to come each evening to upload our diary and check emails etc. We just went to a sushi bar with a conveyor belt, which was really fun and tasted delicious. I think we are now planning to go back to Times Square to see it at night because last night we were too tired to go out. Today has been really good, seen alot of cool art things, but hopefully the weather will be a bit better from now on. We didn't manage to go to ground zero or Statue of Liberty because it was too wet! See you here again same time (roughly) tomorrow!

New York: Day One

Hi, I have found a way to update my blog via email which basically means I can write it throughout the day and then upload it whenever I can get internet. For the next week it will be more like a diary.

04:18 (UK Time) - I am in the car on the way to the airport with my dad driving. Zoe is asleep in the back at the moment and we have about 30 minutes till we get there.

06:11 - We have now checked in and gone through security. Now sat in the terminal looking out the window watching planes come in and out. We are boarding at 07:30, so the next entry will prob be on the plane.

07:12 - I was just thinking, why do people check the calories of things they have just bought and are already eating/drinking? It's pointless, what are you going to do, throw it away as it's too fatty?

11:44 - We are somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean at the moment, not that I can see it, all I can see is clouds! We are not even halfway and I'm bored. Enchanted is on but it's not really my sort of film, so I might try and sleep again to waste some time.

13:58 - Have now read the whole of the magazine I brought along, so am at a bit of a loose end. I just played solitare for about half an hour, didn't win once! Yawn.

12:07 (NY time from now on) - We are in America! When we were coming out the airport we got hustled into going in a minibus instead of a cab, which we are in now. The seats are covered in Jamican flags, the radio is playing some boring religious radio show, it is full of 11 of us and it is quite hot. We are almost in Manhatten so I'll continue later.

17:23 - We are now in the Apple store as wi-fi internet access isn't as easy to find as I first thought. Going to go for a stroll then get some dinner. Update this again when I can.

Best Kebab Van Name Ever

Went to Bristol last night to go and see Vampire Weekend.

They were good actually, they sounded really good live and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the support band, I think they were called White William. We went in from when their set started and they were just really boring. The lead singer seamed to avoid making eye contact with the audience at all costs, with his keyboard facing to the side. They really didn't give off a good vibe, but I guess it's who you know in the business not how good you are as both bands were from New York. (Talking of New York, I'm going in under a week!)

On the walk from the car to the gig we spotted this kebab van and I think you will agree that this is the best named kebab van ever, actually I would go as far as saying this is the best named 'anything' ever! (Click on the picture to view it better)

Also when we were walking back to the car after the gig, we were waiting at the traffic lights to cross the road and some kid in a passing car shouted "cut your hair and get a job". I love how I can imagine his mates all going "well done mate, that told 'em" and slapping him a hi five!

The only flaw in his comment is I would prefer to do things the other way round. I'll get a job and then I can afford to cut my hair, coz that's why we students have long hair if you didn't know, we just can't afford it as we are in so much debt. It's nothing to do with the fact that that is how we want our hair, it's such a cruel world, I wish I could have short hair!

On a side note, I didn't get time to vote yesterday. It doesn't matter too much as Rex Barnett was re-elected anyway.

Student Loan = £0

Ok, I have now spent all of my student loan, you would have thought this was a bad thing but I'm actually quite happy.

My original plan was to save it all up and then at the end of my course buy a reliable car with the money.

I actually ended up getting an iMac, MacBook Pro, iPod Touch, trip to Glasgow, two trips to New York and the reliable car! So I got what I originally planned to get and much more!

Now I just need to pay it all back.

Wii Fit

Went down to Asda at around midnight last night to get Wii Fit. There was actually quite a big queue which there hasn't been at the other game launches I've been to. Mario Kart there was about 5 people but last night there was more like 20. As soon as I got it I set off home to try it out.

The balance board is actually heavier ans feels sturdier than I thought it would be and it was very quick to set up.

When you first start the game you have to input your height and date of birth and it carries out a few tests to determine your centre of gravity and BMI. Then it gives you your Wii Fit Age (mine was 22, which is only one year off) and you can set yourself a target to meet, so you have something to work towards.

Ok onto the actual game, the training activities are in four categories, Yoga, Muscle Workout, Aerobic Exercises and Balance Games. After trying out a few from each section I would definitely say that the Jogging is by far the most tiering and some of the yoga poses are actually quite hard to archive. There are loads more bits to unlock and games I haven't played yet.

To summarise from my short time playing this so far, this is a great way to do light exercises while playing games which kinda makes you forget you are exercising at all and it is really good for tracking your body.

Today Google launched Virgle. This is a joint effort from Virgin and Google to live on Mars and they have even made a video with Richard Branson for YouTube asking for people to submit videos to live on mars. Alot of work has gone into this one, click here to check it out.

Oakwood & Crystal Maze - Looks Can Be Deceiving

Yesterday I went to Oakwood in South Wales with Dan, Green, Kev and Zoe.

It took around 3 hours to get there and when we got there, there was just a tiny car park and what looked like a barn. We were all thinking "oh dear, this does not look good". The park was open till 5 but we were pretty sure we wouldn't stay till then because it looked rubbish.

So we paid and had to get on this little train to the park. They have actually got a few really good rides. We ended up staying till pretty much closing time and having a really fun day, it was a really good park despite what it looked like from outside. It even has a roller coaster that is more than vertical!

One major incident which I remember is on this one ride called Waterfall you sat on a plastic float and had to hold on. You went down a slope and then skimmed across this stretch of water which was just over a foot deep. Now at the top the man said "make sure you lean forward" and I am pretty sure I did but something went wrong. I went down the slope then when I got to the water bit at the bottom, I didn't really skim. My float kinda just stopped and I fell off it into the water!

I was just sat in this water while the people watching were laughing and the man operating the ride too. I was absolutely soaked head to toe, the first thing I did was quickly get my phone out of my pocket. It was ridiculous, why would you make a ride where there is a possibility that you could fall in, although the rest of the group didn't and nor did anyone else while we were watching. Fortunately I had seen that the weather was going to be heavy rain (which there wasn't) so I had bought an extra set of clothes, so after a quick walk back to the car to get changed we carried with our day.

After we left and had some food we went to this place where there was a bowling alley and a Crystal Maze. When we got there it looked rubbish. It just looked like a building in the middle of nowhere (it sort of looked like Area 51, if you live in Swindon). But we thought while we are here we might as well have a look.

It was about £5 to play a game and all you got was a swipe card and told to go through this door. It was amazing (no pun intended) inside, it had all the proper zones and was properly themed. You got clues as to where you had to go next and you had to run to the next task up stairs and down slides etc. Then after we completed the challenges we went in the Crystal Dome. In it was buttons all around the edges and you had to press them when they lit up to get points and if you pressed any that weren't lit up they were deducted from your score (Kev!). We only ended up getting 4 but it was still really fun.

So the moral of the story is 'Don't judge a book by it's cover'. Both these places looked as though they were not going to be very good at all and both ended up being really fun!

Try Something New

Last week, my brother Paul cooked for the family and he cooked a green curry.

I would not normally like this or try it but as my brother had gone through the effort of making it I decided to just try it. I was pleasantly surprised and I actually really enjoyed it, I thought nothing else of it.

But then the day after he had cooked dinner again, this time it was stuffed peppers. Again I am not really a fan of this, I do not like peppers, so I thought "I'll just eat the inside and leave the peppers". But then when I got it I had a change of heart and for some reason decided to try the pepper and like the curry I actually enjoyed it, so this got me thinking.
People always say that your taste changes as you get older so maybe I will like things that I didn't used to like, so I have decided to now 'try something new'. So next time I go to McDonalds I will get something from the menu that I haven't tried before or if somebody offers me something I would normally turn down I will say 'yes please' instead of the normal 'no thanks'.

So far since starting this a few days ago, apart from the two things above, I have tried kebab with salad (which I have NEVER had before), dried plums and vegetable soup. I am not actively going out looking for new things to try, just when I get to the point of a decision I am choosing something I wouldn't normally.

Local Youth Mauled By Vicious Dog

Well that's what the Adver would say.

Today I was winding up Lennon as I do on a regular basis and he barked in my face but caught me as he did. He bit my bridge of my nose and my upper lip and I was bleeding quite a lot and went really light headed and felt sick.

I feel a bit better now, my nose was hurting but Zoe gave me some drugs and the pain went away.

I feel really sorry for Lennon because as soon as it happened it looked really upset because he didn't mean to do it he was just playing. Ever since he has been moping round and has been quite subdued, I wish you could talk to them as I want to let him know I forgive him as he doesn't really understand.

This morning a good friend of mine Matt Curd sent me an email telling me there was a problem with the blog.

I have now sorted this out but if you used to access this page by typing www.y2kjon.com/blog that no longer works, so please update your bookmarks.

You can still get here by going to y2kjon.com and clicking blog as it has just moved were it is stored online.

As I was doing this I decided to change the layout in general to give it a bit of an update. I will try and add more things in the future so that this page becomes more interactive. I have already started by adding a poll on the right so it would be great if you could answer the question. The idea behind this is so that if you come here often there will hopefully be at least something different every day (we will have to see how long this lasts!).

In moving it around I have unfortunately lost the pictures to alot of my posts and I am now working on this (I have got all the way back to June 07 so far!). Oh and I have put the Blogger banner back on the top so you can search the old posts if there is something in particular you are looking for.

I just found this and thought it was really interesting, so thought I would pass it on.

It is a company called ZINK Imaging, which stands for 'zero ink', they have produced a mini printer to print off digital prints without the need of ink, just the special paper they have created which heats tiny crystals to create the colour.

This is an amazing idea and the product is really small. Also they are creating a 7 megapixel digital camera with the printer built in!

Kind of like Polaroid you can print images instantly but the difference being it doesn't print every images you take, just the ones you want. Unlike Polaroid which you couldn't take again if somebody was talking or moving.

Polaroid are actually part of this product as they are partners with them, I think this technology is due out later this year. Think how many people would want this, you could print photos from your phone in minutes or they could put it into laptops so you could print on the go. I just hope they don't miss this opportunity by pricing it too high. To see how it works or for more information click here.

Talking of Polaroid I also saw this concept idea for a digital photo frame which looks like a Polaroid picture and also has a dry wipe section so you can write captions onto it.

Something For Nothing - Divine Chocolate

Ok, so I received this in the post today (as Zoe got it sent to me) and for some reason the first thing I thought was, oh no it's that crappy Fair Trade chocolate.

From past experience with Fair Trade chocolate it has just tasted like advent calendar chocolate, which is a good thing in small doses but a whole bar of it is not nice. So I was not looking forward to this bar at all!

So I opened it up and it has quite posh packaging, the chocolate is covered in foil and then paper around that, like the good old days (remember when Dairy Milk came in foil and paper?).

So I took my first bite... and I was pleasantly surprised, this bar actually tasted really nice. I would compare it more to Nestle than Cadbury (tastes a bit like Yorkie) and it was actually quite milky and smooth.

This has definitely changed my view on Fair Trade chocolate and might have even persuaded me to buy it in the future.

I would give this freebie 4 out of 5. (Well, it's not quite Cadburys is it!)

Peoples faces and names you know and where they live and facts about each of them.

All the numbers you know, phone numbers, special dates etc.

All the words in our language and some words of other languages.

Memory's of places and things you have done and seen.

Most of the things you were taught at school.

And much much more!

A Week On / My Actual 21st

Ok so it is now a week on from when I got featured on YouTube and what a busy week it has been! For the first 4 - 5 days my email inbox was insane filled with new comments and new subscriptions, it is dying down a bit now but I am still getting them!

It was my 21st yesterday and I had a really good day, got alot of cool presents and in the evening my friends came round and we had pizza and pancakes. It was a really good evening!

As well as giving me presents they also made me a video which was really really really cool! (Thanks to Kev for the photo)

For a while now I have wanted either Gamecube controllers or the Wii Classic controllers so that I can play some of the games on the Wii's Virtual Console.

So last week I saw a Gamecube advertised in the paper with some games, after some time looking on cex.co.uk I found out I could keep one or two games and the controllers and sell all the rest and almost break even, so I went ahead and bought the Gamecube for £35.

Then on Thursday I went to Cex to trade in the console and games and they said "We aren't buying anything until next week as we have a big back log", so just as I was about to go back in today I had a thought.

If I sell everything including the games I was going to keep and the controllers I could do it for the exchange price instead of the cash price (which is more) I could probably get the Wii Classic controllers instead of the Gamecube ones.

So I went back in today and sold them everything for the exchange price of £55.50, which meant I had £55.50 to spend in Cex, and fortunately they had two Classic Controllers in stock so I used up £24 on them (£12 each), which left me with £31.50. So I had technically paid £3.50 for two Classic Controllers which normally cost about £13 each!

Then this left me with £31.50 credit to spend in store which I thought I'd leave until I saw a game I wanted. But then as I was walking out I saw they had a copy of Super Paper Mario for £30 which I have wanted for a while now, so I got that too.

So I went in with an old dusty Gamecube with a few games and came out with two Classic Controllers and a new game (oh and £1.50 credit)! So basically this post is just a big advert for Cex, so here is a link to see if any of your old crap is worth anything.

My 21st Birthday...

...Well kind of.

My actual birthday isn't until the 5th of February but this was the closest weekend my brother Andy (the one that lives in Spain) could get flights over here.

So here is basically what happened:
